Acceptable Use Policy — University VPN
Last updated 2026-08-17
The VPN exists so that staff and students can reach subscribed academic databases from outside the campus network, using the university address those databases check. Ordinary users reach the internet through the university and cannot reach internal university systems — internal access is reserved for staff in the operator group. Registering a device means you have read and accepted this policy.
1. Eligibility
- Access is tied to your account and lasts as long as you are a member of staff or a student. It is withdrawn automatically when that ends.
- You may register up to two devices. To add another, revoke one first.
2. What you must not do
- Break the law or university regulations
- Reach systems or data you are not authorised to access
- Scan, probe or otherwise interfere with the network
- Download or distribute copyrighted work without permission
- Consume network resources in a way that materially affects other users
- Systematically bulk-download from academic databases. This breaches publisher terms and can get the whole university's access suspended.
3. Your responsibilities
- Keep registered devices secure with a passcode or screen lock
- Tell noc@rmutr.ac.th immediately if a device is lost or stolen, and revoke it yourself from this site
- Revoke devices you no longer use, so the address returns to the pool
- Disconnect the VPN when you are not using university systems
4. Logging
While the VPN is connected, all of your internet traffic passes through the university network and is recorded for one year. We record the destination, the time and the volume, but not the content. See the Privacy Notice for the full detail.
5. Reclaiming addresses
Addresses are a limited resource, so unused ones are reclaimed.
| 90 days without connecting | A warning is emailed to your university address |
| 120 days without connecting | The device is removed and its address returned to the pool |
If your device is removed you can register again at any time with the same account and receive a fresh configuration.
6. Suspension
The university may suspend or withdraw access without notice where use breaches this policy, threatens the security of the network, or where required by lawful instruction. Breaches may lead to disciplinary action and legal proceedings.
7. No warranty
The service is provided as is. The university does not guarantee availability or speed and is not liable for loss arising from use of, or inability to use, the service.
